Compass is the long-awaited replacement for our previous bestselling yarn, Pennine.  As the mill that spun Pennine was no longer able to continue offering this service, we searched for another mill who could produce a similar yarn for us.  Not only did we find another mill in Yorkshire, but we think that the new yarn is even better than its predecessor.

Compass is a blend of Polwarth wool from the Falkland Islands and Bluefaced Leicester wool from the United Kingdom - two beautiful soft wools from opposite ends of the compass, one from the South Atlantic and one from the North.  Bluefaced Leicester, often referred to as the British merino, is one of the most luxurious of the British breeds.  The Polwarth breed is a mix of 75% merino and 25% Leicester Longwool, a common ancestor that it shares with the Bluefaced Leicester breed, thus giving it the softness of a merino but a staple length and strength more similar to other longwool breeds such as the Bluefaced Leicester, which makes the two two wools an ideal blend.

The wool is worsted spun, and combines the softness of a merino with the silkiness and lustre of the Bluefaced Leicester.  It is a smooth and uniform yarn which gives excellent stitch definition and drape.
