The end of the de minimis exemption on 29th August 2025
Since 2016 customers in the United States have enjoyed sales tax- and tariff-free online shopping from overseas businesses, up to a goods value of $800 (previously $200). However, Donald Trump has seen fit to end this exemption completely from 29th August 2025. As of this date, tariffs will apply, although it is still not clear at exactly what rate. These charges are to be levied before the entry of goods into the US (i.e. paid by the sender). Any shipments where duty has not been charged correctly will be refused by US customs and will not be returned to sender.
As a result of this sudden action taken by the US government, most European postal services, including the French post office, have suspended all shipments of goods to the US, as their systems are not currently able to handle these new rules, and so far no system has been put in place by US customs for collection of these duties. We hope that at some point the US government will find a more reasonable way of applying taxes and tariffs so that European postal services can resume shipping to American customers, and so that we can continue to sell to our loyal US customers at a reasonable price. However for the moment sales to the US are unfortunately no longer possible.
