Beloved Patterns is a bi-annual Finnish knitting magazine, published by A-lehdet, well-known in Finland for its range of high-quality lifestyle publications. Beloved Patterns magazine is now in its 3rd year, but is now being distributed by Laine Publishing to bring it to a wider audience. It is aimed at the discerning knitting enthusiast who appreciates high-quality design, and each issue draws its inspiration from an iconic Nordic brand or designer.
The autumn 2025 issue takes its inspiration from the renowned Finnish graphic designer Erik Bruun. This 124-page magazine features 20 brand new original designs, ranging in difficulty from easy to more challenging, including 5 sweaters, 2 cardigans, 5 pairs of socks, 3 scarves, 2 hats, 2 pairs of mitts and a cushion cover.
Erik Bruun graduated from the Helsinki Central School of Industrial Design as a graphics designer in 1950, and went on to found his own design studio in 1953. His works are diverse and numerous, including posters, postcards, stamps, and most notably all of the reverse sides of the last ever series of the Finnish Markka banknote series in 1986. In his work, Bruun mostly features Finnish nature in all its richness and beauty. Particularly prominent motifs include the marine eagle, the Saimaa seal and the bear. The Saimaa seal is the symbol of the Finnish nature preservation association, whose logo Bruun designed in 1974. Bruun is now 99 years old and still works on graphic design every day, but now mostly for his own pleasure.
