Ullcentrum's yarns are made with 100% Swedish wool that would otherwise be thrown away or burned as waste.  Swedish wool is renowned for its strength, and so is the perfect fibre for making sock yarn.  Ragg Sock is a stronger yarn than Ullcentrum's regular yarns.  It is spun from the fibres of older sheep (a mix of Gotland and crossbreed) whose fleeces are more robust, and also has a slightly higher twist.  When knitted on smaller needles, this creates a dense and durable fabric for making thicker, traditional Nordic-style hiking socks.

What is a "Ragg Sokk"? The raggsokk gets its name from the word "geiteragg" which means goat bristle. Originally, goats hair was mixed with wool to make the yarn extra durable.Today, this type of yarn is made with 100% wool, but it's still warm and durable and perfect for making thick boot socks.

Please note that as with all our 100% wool sock yarns, as this yarn contains no nylon, reinforcement of the heel and toes may be necessary for heavy use.
