The end of the de minimis exemption.
Since 2016 customers in the United States have enjoyed sales tax- and tariff-free online shopping from overseas businesses, up to a goods value of $800 (previously $200). However, Donald Trump has seen fit to end this exemption completely from 29th August 2025. As of this date, any goods sent by post to customers in the US, no matter what the value, will be subject to a flat-rate duty of $80-$200 dollars per item, depending on country of origin. Since customs duty and associated charges are the responsibility of the recipient and not the sender, this will mean that for the majority of customers buying from us, the charges levied by US customs will be greater than the value of the goods purchased, and it will no longer be worthwhile to shop online from non-US businesses. In order to avoid any unexpected surprises for unsuspecting customers, we have therefore regretfully decided to stop shipping to the US with immediate effect. We hope that at some point the US government will find a more reasonable way of applying taxes and tariffs so that we can resume shipping to our American customers.
