CUSTOMERS IN THE US

The end of the de minimis exemption on 29th August 2025

Since 2016 customers in the United States have enjoyed sales tax- and tariff-free online shopping from overseas businesses, up to a goods value of $800 (previously $200).  However, Donald Trump has seen fit to end this exemption completely from 29th August 2025.  As of this date, tariffs will apply at the rate applicable to the country of origin of the product.  These charges are to be levied before the entry of goods into the US (i.e. paid by the sender).  Any shipments where duty has not been charged correctly will be refused by US customs and will not be returned to sender.

As a result of this sudden action taken by the US government, most European postal services, including the French post office, initially suspended all shipments of goods to the US, as their systems are not currently able to handle these new rules.  It has taken many weeks for the French post office to resume shipping to the US, however the complications of preparing the customs declaration (far more complicated than for other territories) and the high cost of shipping means that we are simply no longer able to offer shipping to the US any more.  We are very sorry for any disappointment, but we don't believe that the extra cost will make buying yarn from us worthwhile for US customers, and the extra work in preparing documentation is not worthwhile for us.  Thank you for your understanding.
