Laine Magazine No. 22 - Aalto
€24.90
Magazine available in English only.
The autumn 2024 edition of Laine Magazine, titled Aalto, is a celebration of architecture. All the photos in this issue were taken at the Paimio Sanatorium, a former tuberculosis sanatorium in southwest Finland built by the renowned Finnish architect Alvar Aalto in 1933, and now one of Finland's most important architectural sites. The building's unique colours and forms offer the perfect backdrop to this collection of autumn knits, full of interesting styles, and with techniques ranging from cables and lace to textured patterns.
In this issue:
- 11 original knitting patterns by Anna Daku, Ines Garcia Suarez, Maria Gomes, Gudrun Johnston, Pauliina Leisti, Yukie Onodera, Eri Shimizu, Megumi Shinagawa, Karoline Skovgaard Bentsen, Ayano Tanaka and Maaike van Geijn, including 6 sweaters, 2 cardigans and 3 shawls.
- An interview with Finnish designer Jenna Kostet, who has transformed the poems of the famous epic, Kalevala, into tradition-inspired knitwear patterns which have charmed international knitters.
- An article about the circular economy in the world of yarn - how recycled yarns can be turned into a sustainable and viable business with delightful end products.
- Fibre Talk by Jeanette Sloan: a regular column in which Jeanette meets interesting people. In this issue she meets Alyson Chu: an American of Chinese origin based in Edinburgh, podcaster, designer and editor of crochet magazine Moorit, amongst other things.
- Five Ways by regular writer Paiva Kankaro, who gives us some tips on choosing substitute yarns for knitting patterns.
- Seasonal recipes, book reviews.
